DETROIT, MICHIGAN — In today’s dance culture, music festivals have taken over not only nationwide, but worldwide. It’s the perfect escape for those who need that reminder of why life is beautiful and for those who call it home. Many music festivals book different genres on their lineup to please everyone from trance, to trap, to progressive, even dubstep. There’s always a stage for everybody! However, there is one festival in particular that manages to stick to its musical roots and that is the Movement Electronic Music Festival, which takes place in the birthplace of techno Detroit, Michigan.
Huge names like Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Ritchie Hawtin, and even Nicole Moudaber have rocked the stages of this event! It has been named #1 on the “10 Outstanding Music Festivals” by the New York Post in 2010. Now you won’t find any trance or dubstep artists, as Movement Festival chooses to stick to its genre of origin with some good ol’ Techno! Check out the Movement Electronic Music Festival 2017 lineup below:
Every single stage is sure to have you grooving if this is the genre you love. The 11th year of Movement Festival is approaching this Memorial Day weekend. Will you be amongst the 40,000 attendees? Aside from the onsite yoga and tremendous VIP experience, this is one of the best festivals we have attended and here’s why:
1. Re-Entry
How many festivals do you know that allow in and outs? Not too many. And with the event being held Downtown, feel free to give your dancing shoes a break by going to a local bar across the street, maybe even catch a game.
2. The Views
As you move to the groove at the Beatport Stage, feast your eyes on a phenomenal view of Windsor, Ontario Canada across the river! Perfect for a group picture background, or just a quick snap of a beautiful scenery.
3. Underground Stage
With numerous stages spread throughout the festival, each with its own thumps and sounds, you’d be shocked to find an underground stage in which is located right under the main stage! Pretty neat if I must say so myself, and the sound system was rocking!
4. Good Vibes
Detroit is the city of resilience full of fun loving individuals ready to welcome you with open arms. I honestly didn’t know what to expect my first time, but from fellow festival-goers, to the bouncer and security staff, everyone was very easygoing.
5. After Parties
Detroit has some of the best after parties. What really stood out to me was the venues. From old, abandoned hotels, to the Mosaic Temple looking like a castle, each place had a very underground feel to it. These parties will have you dancing till the sun comes up.
