A First Timer’s Guide to Bass Coast

by | Jun 21, 2017 | Festivals

MERRITT, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Babe Coast. Space Toast. Whatever you want to call it, Bass Coast is one of the Pacific Northwest’s best kept secrets. Or maybe the secret is out? The Canadian festival located in Merritt, BC, sold out in record time this year. Whether you were seduced by the prime riverfront location, the distinctly feminine design of the festival or the chilled out festival attendees, if you’re gearing up for your first year at this intimate festival, here are a few things you should bring with you:

1. A PLAN

Everyone knows that rolling into a festival is just about the most exciting thing ever, so it will definitely help if you have a basic idea of where you want to camp before you show up. Scope out Bass Coast’s layout before you arrive. If you are coming with a big crew try to arrive at the same time so you can all get a solid spot together. By the time the festival gets going, people are packed in pretty tight. Keep in mind that the further you drive (yay, car camping!) the further you have to walk to the actual festival grounds… but the less bass you have to spoon with at night. Shade is also a hot commodity so if you’re arriving late to the party you might want to consider bringing a shade structure of some kind to protect you from the desert sun.

2. AN OPEN MIND

Always wanted to learn how to twerk? Then you’ve come to the right spot! Bass Coast is a place where artists and attendees feel comfortable to explore & push the bounds of their creativity. Artists often use this festival as a venue to try something new or unexpected so don’t show up expecting a set like anything you’ve heard before. This is where you come to see LWSD play his softer side, and where JPOD throws down his special Bliss Coast set every year. Check out the line up HERE  but make sure you also give yourself the freedom to explore all 4 of the stages… you never know where your ears & eyes will lead you. And if you need a break from the dance floor, stretch your mind a little further by checking out the many workshops, meditations and movement classes offered at the festival.

3. FESTIVAL GEAR

Although Bass Coast is known for its laid-back vibes, when it comes to festival attire, the loyal babe-coasters always show up dressed to impress. Every year has a unique theme and it’s definitely something you’ll want to participate in. This years theme is my favorite so far: SPACE. Even if you aren’t a big costume person, just throw on a pair of galaxy tights and jump in your spaceship. I’ve always wanted to party with an alien!

4. PLAY SAFE

Bass Coast is a place to expand your mind. It’s a space to explore, make new friends, maybe even grow a little. It’s also a place to let loose and have a good time! Just remember that safety is even sexier than that pair of silver go-go boots you’ve been eyeing up. It’s a great idea to acquaint yourself with First Aid and the Sanctuary when you arrive. Pack a Naloxone kit in your party supplies and learn how and when to use it. A quick google search for what is offered in your area should give you all the information you need. Taking simple steps toward a smarter party scene keeps us all shaking our booties on the dance floor.

See you all in outer space! Bass Coast is happening July 7-10th, 2017 in Merritt, British Columbia, Canada. General Admission + VIP have sold out! Visit the official Bass Coast website (link) for more information.
