THE FIRST 2023 RELEASE FROM MOBY’S NEW LABEL always centered at night

by | Jan 19, 2023 | Artists

always centered at night returns with its first 2023 release, transit, ft. Moby and rising Dutch-Sudanese singer Gaidaa. Tipped by Crack and COLORS, Gaidaa’s rich and distinctive vocals weave elegantly with the soulful piano-led orchestral trip-hop arrangement from Moby.

22-year-old Gaidaa grew up in the Netherlands in the small town of Eindhoven where she cultivated her musical talents. She first appeared on the scene in 2018, featuring on Full Crate’s “A Storm On A Summers Day”, releasing her debut EP, “Overture” to positive reviews from Pitchfork, The Fader, and more. Following debut performances and collaborations with COLORS. Gaidaa has recently released the new single “Figures” in anticipation of her upcoming follow-up EP, slated for 2023

On working with Gaidaa, Moby says, “One of the most exciting parts of my creative life is sending an instrumental 5,000 miles across the globe to an amazing singer and writer like Gaidaa, and seeing what magic she creates. In the case of ‘transit’, she created something really remarkable.”

Elaborating on the track, Gaidaa says, “‘transit’ is about the journey of constant self-reflection and actualization. It’s about shedding, relearning, and questioning oneself on the constant path of healing.”

The release follows a stellar debut year for always centered at night, with collective streams hitting 15m across platforms. Moby aims to do something uncompromising – to make music that is emotional, atmospheric, and potentially beautiful, showcasing voices from across the world. With this ethos, the label brought us its debut release medusa, a collaboration between Moby and Grammy-nominated artist and Doja Cat collaborator Aynzli Jones, on air with serpentwithfeet, fall back with rising star Akemi Fox and most recently ache for with José James, a critically acclaimed jazz artist for the hip-hop generation.

Multiple releases on ACAN are planned for 2023 and beyond. The label will not be going for a billion streams on Spotify, and there is a constant subtext within the DNA of the label: Moby’s disappointment for what he calls: “our current, fear-driven, algorithmic-based culture.” The label is a new kind of record label that ignores that idea, completely.

Moby is a multi-platinum-selling, multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, author, and animal rights activist.
