Canada-born Caroline Cecil, known by her stage name WHIPPED CREAM, was a professional figure skater before she transformed into a compelling and dynamic dance music producer and DJ. Her journey from ice rinks to festival stages offers valuable lessons for any artist who wishes to hone their craft, with lessons in perseverence and creative authenticity.
WHIPPED CREAM continues to push boundaries with her latest release, “Erased,” a powerful collaboration with chess champion Andrea Botez via Monstercat. The single deliberately coincided with International Women’s Day, celebrating the global impact of both remarkable women in their respective fields
Her artistic evolution has been impressive throughout early 2025. Her techno alter ego emerged with the Careline EP, released January 31, 2025. This project follows her deeply personal “is this real?” EP from 2024, showcasing her remarkable range as an artist.
Careline is not only a feeling but a distinct sound. Carefully crafted and personified by WHIPPED CREAM – It’s a groovy industrial electronic blend inspired by albums such as 808s and Heartbreaks and further empowered with cinematic drums. It’s the sound of high-fashion. Its luxurious decadence is illustrated in every underground rave. Crafted for an audience longing to refresh their palates, Careline evokes a feeling unlike any other. Innovative. Class. Suspense. Seductive. its Careline.
WHIPPED CREAM remains focused on genuine connection with her creative process, even through her hard work and success in a male-dominated EDM industry. The former professional figure skater brings the same discipline and resilience to her music career. In this exclusive interview, she opens up about her creative process, personal challenges, and the meaningful collaborations that define her artistic journey.

EF: How did you come up with the name WHIPPED CREAM?
Caroline: I was thinking so hard about what to name my DJ project for months. I really wanted to go with Caroline, my real first name, but as a new artist, producer, and DJ, I thought it might be too hard to push myself as a brand with so many songs already existing out there with “Caroline” in the title. Think Neil Diamond, Outkast, the list goes on. I wanted to think of something memorable, and this was before Marshmello and Slushii were around.
The name WHIPPED CREAM came to me, and it just stuck. I never wanted to play on the actual food product, it was more something that the mind could ponder on and make people think on what it meant to them. I wanted a commercial name that people would never forget and think about year round. At the end of the day though, it’s always been about the art and the music, and a name is just a name.
EF: In a DJ mag interview you talked about overcoming significant personal challenges when making your ‘Someone You Can Count On’ EP. In what ways have your life challenges fed into your music making process?
Caroline: I feel like most of my music is a bit of an open diary. Music has always been the thing to keep me grounded and has helped me evolve into my highest form of self. It has always been there for me when I’ve been unable to express myself or how I was feeling through words. It’s an instant place of bliss. It’s like a drug — crazy. So when I’m writing music — and I’ve been in really dark, dark spots in my life with certain things that have happened — all of those thoughts just go away when I’m making music.
When I was going through a certain situation and rough time in my life, “Someone You Can Count On” really saved me. It kind of turned me into becoming that person that I, myself, can count on. I always try to use each project as a character that I want to embody myself, like an alter ego.
EF: You’ve been exploring new creative territory with your techno alter ego on the Careline EP. What inspired you to dive into this alter ego, and how does it differ from your 2024 “is this real?” EP?
Caroline: After “is this real?” dropped, I actually went on tour and discovered it was pretty difficult to play the music from “is this real?” on the road as a touring DJ. Although the music meant so much to me and was a big part of my life (another diary entry), I was having a hard time with it transcending to the dance floor.
I caught myself in the middle of tour making a ton of house and techno music, and that’s when I realized I was pretty good at that too. The music just started flowing. I was able to still put my heart, soul, and feelings into it when I opened up my DAW, but I could also make people DANCE.
For me, this alter ego is a dark, feminine, unafraid, confident, and kind woman. She walks in any room and she belongs there. That’s the character that this Careline EP is supposed to embody, and I wanted to embody that as my real self as well. And honestly, I’m having an absolute blast making house and techno right now.
WHIPPED CREAM plays her 2025 single REDLINE featuring MEMBA at Beyond Wonderland 2025.
EF: You just played Beyond Wonderland, and will be playing at Ubbi Dubbi, TomorrowLand, and Shambhala later this year. What has been an incredible recent experience for you at a festival (whether as a performer or as an attendee)?
Caroline: I honestly think all festivals are an incredible experience because they are all so different from one another, yet, they carry the same ethos of a shared love of music and connection between people of all walks of life. I love playing festivals in general, and they are all special in their own way. It’s impossible to choose just one experience, so I choose them all.
EF: As a prominent female producer in a male-dominated genre, do you have any advice for women looking to get into music or for up-and-coming female producers?
Caroline: For me, it’s always: love music, and don’t care about the applause. As a woman music producer, there will be countless times where you don’t get your applause. You will work ten times harder than others and may still be overlooked.
You have to love what you do at the core because you have to work so hard to accomplish some similar things. You don’t get into this business for the applause because you usually don’t get your flowers right away, and sometimes even to this day for me personally. But love of the art will always be the most important thing at the end of the day.
EF: Your new single “Erased” with Andrea Botez celebrates International Women’s Day and brings together two powerhouse women from very different worlds—chess and figure skating. How do you feel your respective past careers influence the way you approach music and creativity?
Caroline: Andrea is so great because she is such an independent, smart, hard-working, boss, young woman, and she’s so successful at anything she does. I just love that she’s into music and now making techno. I’m also a pretty persistent, independent woman, attributes I picked up being a professional figure skater.
Everything is a mindset. When you fall, you get up. When you inevitably fall again, you get up again. You just have to keep going, knowing you may keep getting hit. Andrea was a boxer too, so she has a similar mindset. You get hit, you get back up. I think that’s why this collaboration worked so well and the song came out so good — our hard working, persistent energies intertwined to create this art.
EF: If you could curate your own festival lineup, who are three artists—living or not— you’d want to headline alongside you?
Caroline: Alongside of me? That’d be so cool, wow. First and foremost, Skrillex. Next is probably Jamie xx, then last would be Frank Ocean. Let’s make that happen ‘ey?
EF: What is something about WHIPPED CREAM that fans might be surprised to learn— either in your musical tastes or personal life?
Caroline: My fans probably know this already, but I don’t really drink. I take my health pretty seriously. I meditate, work out 5 times a week, I love nature, I drink tea before performances and only water when I DJ. I like to go to sleep early and get my full 8 hours, and I don’t really party. I get high and drunk off the feeling of creation and connecting with people.
I feel very grateful that people out there feel a connection to what I’m creating. The fans inspire a lot of what I do. Human connection and energy is super special to me and holds this project together. I always want to explore new ways to connect with people and music, and am fascinated by the connection between people and music in general.
