PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Looking to get abducted? Phoenix Lights last weekend left many ravers feeling abducted at its 5th anniversary this year. Phoenix Lights is a music and art celebration of one of the strangest things to ever happen in Arizona–the Phoenix Lights. Over two decades ago, thousands of people reported bright lights all across the state. UFO sightings are not a stranger to Arizona–they are very common, which inspired many of the out-of-this-world art installations included at Phoenix Lights this year.
iHeartRaves put on a lounge space chock-full of art and cozy places to sit and rest between sets on the turf and couches. Walter Productions Brewery put on a bar space in collaboration with the Trolleyllama. They also brought an art car named Mona Lisa who spewed out fire as festival goers passed by.
The stages included Mothership, Invasion, Colony, and Fallout. Mothership was a beautiful grassy main stage with amazing performances by big names like San Holo, Kaskade, Griz, and Excision. Invasion was taken over by masters of riddim and dubstep like Svdden Death, Squnto, Subtronics, and Minesweepa. Colony was the intimate House stage, with touching sets from Lane 8, Gerry Gonza, Sage Armstrong, and Claude Vonstroke. Local Arizona DJs put on amazing sets at Fallout on top of a giant Jeep stage. Performances by Kenny Oliver and Austin Feldman took the night away.
Many vendors came out to make the experience as incredible as possible, providing quality food and drinks for festival goers. Hot Bamboo, Qdoba, Gypsy Cup, and El Jefe Tacos are some of the vendors that were available. Vibedration, Bass Couture, our local biodegradable glitter company showed out this weekend with their booth, as well as the Flow Shop, the Pin Stop Shop, and Galaxy Dipped–where you can dip your body parts in the “galaxy.” Phoenix Lights was one for the books–we heard even the aliens stopped by for a bit.
